Avon & Somerset Police have been in touch with us, as well as Age UK, about a recent scam where people are posing as ‘Age Concern’ staff to gain access to older people’s homes. Age UK are urging older people in the Bristol and South Glos area to be extra vigilant when answering the door. If you are suspicious of a caller, or they refuse to go away, call 999 and ask for the police. It is important to check ID and be sure of the identity of the caller, especially if it is an unexpected call.
Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK said:
“It is horrible to think that anybody could target vulnerable older people in this way. Posing as someone from a charity is particularly despicable”
